Writing to Santa

It's true, I threw on some Christmas music in my craft room while I made this. I've been busy teaching crafty projects to my fellow crafty peeps the past couple of days so today it was nice to play myself. I have all these ideas and so little time to make them.  I had this idea to use my new ornate frame and my Old Fashioned Christmas Santa.  I bought this stamp set just for this Santa so I could cut him into an oval.

I used a #10 Tag for this tag.  I really wanted everything to fit!  I love these BIG Tags!  It took me a couple hours to make.  But to be fair my Mom called me while I was making it so there was a lot of air drying.

I put some water colour paper into the ornate frame to get the perfect cut oval then stamped with archival black.  LOVE IT!  The frame is cut with chip board, inked with pumice stone and covered in pumice stone distress glitter.  I then inked the edges with vintage photo.  Yep, you can ink the distress glitter.  You can see I also used the star stencil in there with frayed burlap.  Layering is an addiction.

I used my script stamp from the Apothecary set (it's my only script type stamp...sad face) and added a light coat of gathered twigs distress paint for a resist.  Then I used distress stains, old paper, antique linen and picket fence swiping the tag through. A couple dabs of walnut stain make the tag look stained.  The tattered pine cones are neatly tucked in the top with some berries hot glued into place. I hate making these pine cones, it's true.  But I love how they look.

I adore my new writing desk die...ADORE IT!  With the holy leaf cut from the assemblage snowman and his eyes as berries it's perfect to make my pen look all decked out for Christmas!  The greenery is from the tattered pine cone die.

The Tattered Poinsettia is cut with distress paper, merriment and cream.  A little rock candy stickles makes it shimmer.

I love the #10 tag because really I have used 4 big dies on this tag and there's still room.  Here are some Challenges you should check out.  I like challenges...they get me creating.

  1. This is awesome! I'm so jealous and kicking myself. Love the poinsettia die, I had it in my hand and put it back to opt for a different die and when I went back for it, gone... :( And I love the quill pen set, one of my faves! I also want the ornate frame die... chaching! LOL Your creativity is mind blowing, love it!!!

  10. this is great! I love the concept of writing to Santa, the nostalgic look makes me want to prepare my own wish list for the holidays (craft toys are just toys for big girls, right?). I love #10 tags, once you go big its hard to go back.

  11. This is drop-dead fabulous, Nicole! I can't say I love this or I love that because I love EVERYTHING you have done here - the beautifully colored Santa, the glittered frame, the poinsettia and the pen and ink - all sensational. A smash hit for #10 (and I love those #10 tags too, can't use anything else now that I am used to that size!). Great to have you joining in for week 310.

    Hugs,
    Linda
