Cargo Storage for Idea-Ology

I've had something like this on my mind for awhile now.  Sometimes you know what you want then you wait to find one.  Today I was needing to find some paper and I turn around and see this!  I shot across the isle and snapped them right up!  The best part...they were 50% off at Michaels!  The frames are stained wood and the boxes are tin!

Now to have a little fun.  This is a quick tutorial where I'll show you how to turn your Sizzix dies into a stencil for a Home Decor project.

I love the Cargo Numbers.  When I got them a couple years ago I made a stencil with them seen below using some clear plastic packaging.

I cut a piece of foam for the stencil and added a little black soot to my craft mat.

All my tin boxes are perfect for my Idea-Ology.

I line up the number part to the corner.

Add a little paint and load the sponge.

Line up the stencil.

Dab the distress paint and build up the black.

Add the number.

Lift and remove.

Heat to set the paint.

You can rub it and it won't come off!

To set the double digits I started at the edge.

Stenciling the "1" for the "11" then I stenciled the other "1" beside it.

Now all my Idea-Ology and fun finds to add to my projects are in one spot.  It's small enough it can sit right on my desk.

I love how this turned out!  To add my twist took me about 30 minutes and a little product.

The variation from applying the distress paint creates a vintage look.

These metal boxes are about 3x3 and are deep enough to hold a lot.  Now I need MORE to fill them.

This project turned out to be a quick storage solution for all my bits, bobs and do-dads.  I am thrilled I found this and altered it to suit my room.

Check out the rest of My Room and see how my newest addition fits in!
Thanks for stopping in and checking out my post.  I'll let you know if I alter it more.

    2. Hi Nicole,
I looked at Michaels website, they don't seem to carry them in the USA. Would you mind telling me who makes them, if you still have that info.? Again, you did a really great job on these!

    3. I think they are Ashland? It does not say on my receipt. I know we carry different stuff up in Canada than the US stores. I asked if they were in the US and the lady said our stock is different. She was doubtful.
