Mixing it Up

Well, I took my first class in Mixed Media!  I have not, up until now been a mixed media fan.  I find for me a lot of what I see is very abstract, bright and often feminine.  Not elements that float my boat creatively. So, I took a class with the fabulous Christy Riopel.  I had so much fun and I stayed open!  Like with anything just make it your own.  When I did that, I felt much better about mixed media and I feel we can have a future together.

Using the techniques Christy taught and my willingness to make a total mess I ended up really enjoying my first pages of mixed media.  And here they are.

I just picked up the Big Top stamps the other day!  Perfect for these pages. I wasn't sure I would like these stamps.  But I'm seeing fun stuff created with them.

This technique is all about stencils and working to layer them with dylusions spray.  Here, I've sketched hot air balloon...not well but I wanted one.

I used multiple stencils and sprays.  Then traced my stencils over the sprayed stencil.

Where I sketched my very primitive balloon, you can see the chevron stencil and stars.

More stars with the elephant!  The purple is the cargo numbered stencil.

More of the cargo numbers and stamps.  When the Gesso and paint go over top it's a pretty wash.

Again, I traced the cargo numbers over the stars stencil in orange.

Here, you can just see some of the bubbles stencil.

All pulled together it's a pretty cool effect!

UPDATE;
I was so excited to show my pages I forgot to add the embossing paste with stencils for the challenge. Oops...

Here's the paste with the bubbles stencil.

More bubbles near the top of the photo and the stars stencil.

These are the other pages we created.  On this page (my first) we used the gesso, dylusions sprays and water.  Then stamp with stays on.

My other pages using the gesso and distress paints.

Here I've stamped onto paper then cut out my stamped images.

I'm not sure I've got this technique down.  But it was fun trying.

Thanks for checking out my first Mixed Media pages.  I'm excited to share with you.  Be gentle...I'm new! Hehe...
