How to make Witches Boots

Behold HALLOWEEN!
Bet you've been wondering where my Halloween stuff has been.  Well, with projects like the Fall Wreath and my daughters Union Jack Headboard, I've been a little busy to spook!  I have been seeing witches boots a lot lately all over Pinterest.  I really wanted to make a set.  Here, I'll show you how I made these Wicked Boots!

Step1;
I simply sketched out a design I thought was "witchen".  You can also find templates online.

Step 2;
Trace your boots onto a piece of scrap wood with a Sharpie.  This one I found in my husband's wood bin.  I did ask so I wouldn't get in trouble.

Step 3;
OK,poking fun at myself here.  But safety first, put on your Uni-brow safety goggles and get the jigsaw ready!

Step 4;
Cut out your boots.  If they are a little rough don't worry, you'll be loading them up with spooky goodies!  But if you want to be picky, I would use a dremel to sand the little nooks.

Step 5;
Dust off your car once you've covered it in wood bits.  My baby is all dusty!

Step 6;
I used black acrylic paint on my boots then send the edges to smooth them exposing some wood.

Step 7;
Pick out your favorite Halloween paper.  I used Tim Holtz Halloween Haunts paper pack.  These witches were perfect!  Get tracing and cutting!  One 12x 12 sheet will do for both boots.

Step 8;
Once you've traced your boots, modge podge the back pieces of paper and stick it on.  Then
 sand the edges again, ink the edges with Walnut Stain and modge podge again with another coat on top.  Just the paper.  The black bits get something else, you'll see as you scroll down.

Step 9;
$1 Store finds are great to add to embellishing.  I hot glued these skulls and bones together from a necklace.  Six cost on 1 necklace cost $1.

Step 10;
I found this choker for $1 at the $1 store too.  I used my heat gun to make it look old and weathered.  You want the holes so don't worry!  This will be in place of laces.

Step 11;
Rusting is my new friend.  This is Iron paint and with the rust activator makes real rust.  I rusted some of the embellishments and 1 coat to the exposed black on the boots, heal, toe and top.  You can see the grey iron paint.  Let dry, then add the activator.  I added about 3 coats of this.

Step 12;
I used a variety of my Spooky Movers and Shapers I have been collecting.  Ink away!

Step 13;
No daubers, no worries.  A paint brush and acrylic paint works awesome!

Step 14;
Sand the edges of your spooky embellishments and then ink them up with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.  No grunge board, cereal box works awesome!  Then Rock Candy Crackle Paint.

Step 15;
These not so spooky Mini bird cages become spooky once you cut the centers out and curl the bars!  Ink with Black paint.  Then a layer of Rock Candy.

Step 16;
Glossy Accents for some of your embellishments adds a great punch.

Step 17;
More Halloween Haunts paper, this time I cut the small letters and inked the edges.

Step 18;
Another cut from Halloween Haunts paper pack.  No stamps, no problem.  Paper works just as well.  Cut the signs, distress the edges, ink them with Walnut Stain and finish off with Rock Candy Crackle Paint!

Step 19;
Now embellish.  Take all your elements and put them where you want.  I tend to group them when decorating.

Step 20;
Use Halloween ribbon to hide the line where the paper and boot meet.  I spray glued a jingle bell and coated with green glitter.  Hot glue and layer your embellishments.  I tucked the distressed labels in the ribbon with hot glue.

Step 21;
The distressed choker and skulls are great in place of laces.  Hot glue into place!

Step 22;
Paint rust onto fence pieces too.  I cut a "31", coated and Glossy Accents then popped it on a piece of thick twine so it looks like a fence!  A little copper wire makes great trendils for the pumpkin.

Step 23;
The letters cut from Halloween Haunts paper pack I ran along the paper edge.  This boot says "Spider Web" with the "W" being a scrabble piece.

Step 24;
For this side of the boot I cut out "Halloween" with the "O" scrabble piece.  I attached the creepy cages to the toe and placed a bat flying out.  I attached copper wire to the bat, then to the cage so he wobbles.

Step 25;
Display!  This year my dining room is a WITCHES DEN complete with hats, brooms, witches signs, cauldrons and bottles of poison!  I load my table up so it's full and on Halloween all my safe candles (battery operated) will flicker for the kids to peak in.  Every year it changes!

Everything I had on hand to build these Witches Boots.  So in total it cost me $2 for the choker and skull necklace.  These would make great Christmas decorations too all decked in Holiday papers and jingles.  So I wil be keeping my template I sketched.  I had a ton more photo's but I thought you might like to finish the post.  A lot went into these and it was so fun!

Let me know what you think:)  I'm super excited to add these to my Halloween House!
